Pelican Freak’s 4-star Review:

Formatting: Looks great, appears to be professionally done.

Editing/Proofing: Also appears professional; no distractions.

Overall: Kaye did a great job with this story, giving the reader suspense, romance, organized crime, cop drama, and more. She does a great job with character development as well, keeping Olivia’s character consistent throughout, especially/even when Olivia herself questions it at times. There’s action and passion – seems to be something for everything here. The characters are real, making it all more easy to be sucked in. I couldn’t put this book down. As I understand it, it’s a standalone, but I’d completely read more with these characters.

4 stars.

Really – ANY book by Christina Kaye would be a good choice. Her suspenseful thrillers will keep you on the edge of your seat.

*SYNOPSIS*
Kara

I should start trusting my gut instincts more often. Maybe then I wouldnít have wasted so much time on Noah, the lying SOB who had the honor of calling himself my boyfriend for way too long.

Now I no longer have to feel guilty about sneaking stolen glances at Club Thriveís family bodyguard. Slade manages to make my body react in the most sinful ways just by being near me, and now that Iím fair gameÖIím starting to suspect he might feel the same way.

Slade

Iíve been hired to protect the Club Thrive family, and that includes protecting Kara from low-life scumbags like her ex-boyfriend. Unfortunately, I donít think this is the last weíve seen of Noah. Heís got bad news stamped all over his forehead, and if my instincts are anything to go by, heís not going to let Kara go that easily.

But Iíve waited too damn long for the chance to make Kara mine. Nothing and no one will stop me from keeping her safeÖnot even the Devil himself.

Pelican Freak’s 5-star review:

Wow!

I came into this book not really sure what to expect.
The prologue left me still unsure of what to expect.. it was a great introduction to Mimic, who turned out to be a fascinating character but left questions. Did suck me in though.

The book is set in present time, but has futuristic technology if that makes sense. Really, it’s alien technology that humans stumble upon. Hammott manages to make it seem plausible. It’s not hard to believe that any other race would be more advanced than humans as… clearly we humans cannot get past superficial issues long enough to grip the big picture and just get our shit together.

This book centers around smarter-than-average humans so they sort of stand a chance against what they find… slim as it may be.

There’s nonstop action, almost.
Despite all of the action, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get to know the characters who are brilliantly developed.

I absolutely loved to hate one of them, was fascinated by a couple of them… rooted for the bulk of them and there was even a little romance worked in. Though it was subtle, it still managed to hold my attention and cause me to root for it.

This book also has laugh out loud moments and a little bit of heartwrench.
Lately, I’m having a hard time becoming engrossed in anything… as everything’s been done before. This is like nothing I’ve ever read and I’ll absolutely seek out more rom Hammott.

No complaints at all.. 5 stars.

She awakes in yet another reality with no memories of her past, or even herself. Something is making her forget… and just like that she steps into her new life.

Malum is deeply in love with Jade and is only agenda is to give her the world… Or so he claims. Blindly followed by his people, the Luxans, he works tirelessly to keep them safe from the Rebels, with Jade by his side. Surely his motives are pure… yet, the more time Jade spends with him, the further she seems to fall from herself.

All the while, Jade is plagued by vivid dreams of another life… one she struggles to understand while Malum works to make her forget. As Jade struggles to hold onto her soul and discover her past, Malum seeks to possess all that she is.

PelicanFreak’s 5-star Review

I absolutely will never be able to say enough about this book.

I had the pleasure of reading it for edits and I actually missed it every time I had to step away. It really sucked me in. Vieira has a way of setting the scene, and with the descriptives – so that the reader feels like they’re there. I love when that happens, unfortunately it doesn’t very often any more.

The characters are a very interesting cast and you’ll find that you love to hate them, or totally root for them… there is sex, violence, romance. There’s a little bit of raw anger – that these characters are able to draw out and I’ve never said this about fiction – I don’t get emotionally invested easily – but I did with this book.

I truly hope that Vieira keeps writing as she clearly has a rare gift. With so much to read, literally millions of choices, it still is hard to find something of this quality.
I eagerly await more in this series and I will greedily submerse myself in anything this author writes going forward.

Brilliantly designed, complex characters.
Good continuity.
Spelling/grammar/ etc. on point.

Great cover, fitting. Dark like the book…
As I’m writing this review, I miss the book still. Pretty sure I’ll be re-visiting it in the years to come, as a rare favorite.

Highly recommend.

Bodyguard, Den of Thieves Book #2, by A.M. Cosgrove

BodyGuard DoT2

Pelican Freak’s 5star review:

What I love about Cosgrove is she can pull off a hot, steamy romance that is also sweet, yet not like all of the other billions of romance books out there!

Bodyguard, like its predecessor is filled with characters I love – in fact, I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for more of these series because the guys of DoT Recovery have completely grown on me.

Bo is a hottie with baggage… however he’s not super annoying about it, he’s trying to overcome it. His client has her own baggage and issues… he’s got to help her get to the bottom of it all before someone from her past? Present? That’s part of the mystery – succeeds in killing her. Along the way, he might realize he’s attracted to her..

This book has just enough mystery to keep me guessing til the end, loads of drama and it’s hot where it needs to be. It’s a fun, fast read that left me wanting more of the series but with no questions thus far. A great read – Cosgrove never disappoints.

Highly recommend.
